Hong Kong ParkHong Kong Park, stretching over 8 hectares in Central Hong Kong, is a fine example showcasing how one can merge modern design and facilities with natural beauty. The Park provides relaxing environment to work-weary Hong Kongers and tourists who are usually busy in hectic shopping.

Facilities
Hong Kong Park is an oasis of relaxation in the crowded business centre. 'Vantage Point' is a nice place to refresh you in the park. Another attraction here is Edward Youde Aviary, Hongkong's largest aviary. You can also enjoy plant exhibitions organized in the greenhouse (Forsgate Conservatory). You can inhale plenty of fresh air in Garden Plaza and Tai Chi Garden. Sport-lovers can enjoy themselves in sport centre and squash centre.

You can see an artificial lake and a waterfall at the centre of the park. Strolling along the lakeside path, you would find the Olympic Square and other modernized facilities.

Bird Watching
You can enjoy birdwatching in Hong Kong Park every Wednesday. The gathering point is Hongkong Park conservatory and entry is free. Time for the activity is 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Background
Hong Kong ParkHong Kong Park, officially opened in May 1991, was originally a garrison named Victoria Barracks. In 1979, the Government decided to develop mid-level portion as a park while the portion near the foot of the hill was to be used for commercial development. The project was undertaken at the cost of $398 million. While developing the park care was taken to preserve a number of garrison buildings built between 1842 and 1910. However role of these buildings has changed. Flagstaff House (currently accommodates the Flagstaff House Museum of Teaware), the Rawlinson House (currently accommodates the Park Management Office and the Cotton Tree Drive Marriage Registry), the Wavell House (currently accommodates the Education Centre) and the Cassels Block (currently accommodates the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre).

How to Reach
Hong Kong Park is accessible by MTR and road transport. While using MTR you must disembark the train at Admirality station and come out via C1 exit. However if you are coming by car you must note that public car park facility is not available inside the park. You have to use Queensway Government Offices Carparks or Murray Road Multi-storey Carparks.
