Pick of attractions in Lantau Island is Disneyland. Its natural backdrop of verdant mountains and undulating landscape makes it different from other landscapes in the world. Disneyland is a must in the itinerary of every visitor in Lantau Island. It is segregated into several themed lands.
Po Lin Monastery
Po Lin Monastery, most famous Buddhist monastery in Hong Kong, is a place where you would find peace and tranquility. The place holds a massive copper idol of Sakyamuni or Tian Tan Buddha. The idol is regarded as the tallest outdoor seated Buddha statue in the world.
Ngong Ping 360
This thrilling 5.7km cable car journey offers wonderful panoramic views. The ride is from Tung Chung Town Centre down to Ngong Ping, Lantau Island. Modern bi-cable rope technology has been used for making the cable car. 17 persons are allowed to board a single cabin car.
Wisdom Path
Wisdom
Path is an outdoor replica of the centuries-old Heart Sutra. It is
revered by Confucians, Buddhists and Taoist alike. The Sutra symbolizes
divine splendor and infinity.Tung Chung Fort
Tung Chung Fort, a historical monument, was constructed in 1817 in Hong Kong with the motive of defending the coast from pirates and suppressing the opium trade. The fort with granite enclosures has 6 old cannons.
Tai O
Hundreds of stilt houses make Tai O, three centuries old fishing town, a place of discussion. Bookmarks of old Tai O like waterways, stilt houses and fishing boats are still found there. While you are here don't fail to savour salted fish and shrimp paste.
Other Attractions
Almost half of Lantau consists of national parks, including several well-marked trails. Lantau Trail, a 70 kilometre 12 section trail, is the best-known among these. Campsites are available in these national parks. Cheung Sha is Lantau's best-known and longest beach while Sunset Peak is the most famous hike.
How to Reach
Lantau link connects urban areas of Lantau Island to the International Airport. One can reach Lantau via MTR, public buses, taxis or cars. Ferry services operate from Lantau for other islands.
Getting Around
One can travel within Lantau Island either by taxi or bus. Taxis serving on Lantau Island are blue in colour.
