Repulse BayRepulse Bay, a luxurious area for array of leisure activities, is the most spectacular bay in Hong Kong. The bay, with golden and soft sand, stretches long with clear azure blue water gently lapping the shore. Besides number of aquatic activities, Repulse Bay provides extensive facilities for visitors.

Activities
You can spend your time on Repulse Bay in thrilling water sports or savouring delicious seafood. So many Barbecue racks are available under the shade near the beach. Upmarket Repulse Bay is dotted with hotels, supermarkets, and cafes. You can climb the lighthouse near the beach to capture the bay in camera. Visitors in Repulse Bay can also spend satisfying time in watching the sunset. Huge idols of the Queen of Heaven and the God of Mercy are also located in the park.

Swimming is a popular activity in Repulse Bay. You need not worry about sharks and other aquatic animals for the bay is fitted with shark prevention nets and floating platforms. Lifeguards are appointed during the summers.

Few places in Hong Kong are better than Repulse Bay for a romantic dinner. Several open-air restaurants near the beach specialize in preparing mouthwatering barbecued food, including fresh prawns, squid and fish. Every night, these places are cheerful hives of activity.

How to Reach
Several bus and minibus routes pass via Repulse Bay. The buses would either take you through the Aberdeen tunnel, or along a bit longer but more scenic route. You can also opt to drive yourself for the beach. Parking space is available on the beach as well as in the nearby Repulse Bay hotel. You also have the option of hiring a taxi.

Life Guard Club
Life Guard Club, a Repulse Bay landmark, is built in traditional Chinese style. Magnificent swirling dragons adorn the ceiling of the club.

History
Pirates used the Bay till 1841 for their operations and became a source of constant concern for foreign merchant ships. The British decided to crush the pirates and sent a fleet for the purpose. The British fleet subsequently repulsed the pirates. After that the bay came to be known as Repulse Bay. However there is another theory too. This holds that the bay was named after the HMS Repulse which was once anchored at the bay.
