History
Strategic location of Victoria Harbour enticed the British to occupy the island of Hong Kong during the First Opium War, and subsequently establish a trading post. It later developed as a full-fledged colony. Some of the first recreational activities to take place in the harbour were water competitions like swimming and water polo in 1850s.
