Get benefited from Quality Tourism Services (QTS) Scheme, launched by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) to help tourists find good shops and restaurants. Under this scheme, establishments are certified after thorough check.
Reservations
If you are visiting a restaurant during lunchtime it would be advisable to make reservations, particularly on the weekends.
Credit Cards
Cards are welcome at most Hong Kong restaurants. Check the credit card slip before signing it and remember to take your receipt.
Chopsticks in Chinese Restaurants
Use chopsticks in place of a knife and fork in Chinese restaurants. For picking up small and slippery food, toothpicks are also used.
Spicy Dishes
When
ordering for spicy dishes, you can tell the waiters how spicy you like -
very spicy, spicy or lightly spicy.Dress code
Most restaurants are ok with casual attire. If the occasion if formal, you would find people in coat and tie.
Service Charge
10% service charge is usually added to the bills in most restaurants. Charge could be higher during Chinese New Year.
Non-smoking Areas
As of 1 January 2007, indoor restaurants and bars are required by law to implement a smoke-free policy to protect their employees and customers from secondhand smoke exposure unless they have applied for an exemption until 30 June 2009.
